Island
Falls, located near Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, is a 20 MW
run-of-river hydroelectric project.
This project is owned 50% by Canadian
Hydro and 50% by two private developers
through a project specific company known as Yellow Falls
Power Limited Partnership.
Estimated
generation of 93,000 MWh per year of renewable electricity
will be enough to power 13,000 households. Capital cost
projections for this project are $64 million. The next
steps involve securing regulatory approvals and financing,
following which construction is scheduled to commence in the
spring of 2007, with commercial operation expected by
October 2008.
Stakeholder
participation is an important component of the project
approval process. In order to ensure that the appropriate
environmental and socio-economic considerations are
incorporated into the project design, your input and
questions are encouraged.
We encourage you to participate and learn more about this
exciting project.
