Blue River
Located between Blue River and Valemount, in the Thompson River Valley,
the Bone Creek (20 MW), Clemina Creek
(9.9 MW) and Serpentine Creek
(9.5 MW)hydroelectric projects will generate an aggregate
estimated 150,000 MWh per year of green power,
enough to power 21,000 households. The anticipated capital cost of
these projects is $90 million.
Pending regulatory approvals and
financing, construction is scheduled to commence in the summer of
2008, with completion expected by the fourth quarter of 2009.
English Creek
The 5 MW English
Creek hydroelectric project is located near Revelstoke, close to
Canadian Hydro's Pingston and Akolkolex Hydroelectric Plants. It
will generate an estimated 20,000 MWh per year of green power,
enough to power 2,800 households. Capital cost projections for this
project are $10 million. The next steps involve securing regulatory
approvals and financing, following which construction is scheduled
to commence in the summer of 2008, with completion expected by the
fourth quarter of 2009.
Melancthon II
Melancthon II is the
second phase of the Melancthon Wind Project, where phase I is
currently nearing commercial operation. Melancthon II will consist
of 88, 1.5 MW wind turbines that will generate an estimated 350,000
MWh per year of renewable electricity – enough to power 50,000
households. The anticipated capital cost of the project is $275
million. Pending regulatory approvals and financing, construction is
scheduled to commence in the spring of 2007, with commercial
operation expected in the spring of 2008.
Wolfe
Island
Wolfe Island Wind Project will
consist of 86, 2.3 MW wind turbines located on Wolfe Island, near
Kingston, Ontario. It will generate an estimated 537,000 MWh per
year of renewable electricity – enough to power 75,000 households
(more than the Kingston metropolitan area). The project is expected
to cost $410 million. Construction is scheduled to commence in the
spring of 2007, after obtaining regulatory approvals and financing,
with commercial operation expected in October 2008.
Island Falls
Island Falls, located near Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, is a 20 MW
run-of-river hydroelectric project owned 50% by Canadian Hydro and
50% by two private developers. Estimated generation of 93,000 MWh
per year of renewable electricity will be enough to power 13,000
households. The next steps involve securing regulatory approvals and
financing, following which construction is scheduled to commence in
the spring of 2008, with commercial operation expected by October
2009.
Dunvegan
The Dunvegan project
entails construction of a weir and powerhouse across the Peace River
about two kilometres upstream of the Highway #2 bridge crossing at
Dunvegan, Alberta. The facility will be a run-of-river hydro plant
that produces power from the flow of the river without storing
water, and therefore does not regulate or change the flow regime
downstream of the facility.
